Staycation Series: Things to do in Harrow, Ontario

Being less than an hour away from Windsor makes it a great location to staycation locally! Harrow is a small community in the town of Essex, with about ~3,000 habitants situated along the scenic County Road 20. Along the route you’ll see some small fruit, artisanal, and antique stands, beautiful homes, and a number of wineries! Some may even call Harrow a winery hotspot!

What to do in Harrow, Ontario?

Wineries:

In the parameters of Harrow, there are about 9 different wineries that you can come to enjoy: Colio Estate Winery, Oxley Estate Winery, Muscedere Vineyards, Sprucewood Shores Estate Winery, Paglione Estate Winery, North 42 Degrees Estate Winery & Bistro 42, Viewpointe Estate Winery, CREW - Colchester Ridge Estate Winery, and Erie Shore Vineyard.

  • Before visiting any of the wineries, I would recommend checking out their website or social media pages to inform yourself of what services they have available. For example, if they are doing wine tastings, if reservations are needed, if there is a time limit for seating, etc.!

There are several options to enjoy the different wineries that Harrow has to offer responsibly:

  • WE Trolley offers charter tours for your group

  • Wine Trail Ride by WindsorEats offers guided tours ‘a la bicyclette’ that includes bicycle, helmet, tastings, food at each location and a guide.

  • Grape Vine Tours offers small group winery & brewery tours.

Golf

Harrow is home to one of Canada’s southernmost golf courses! If you’re interested in tee time, I recommend you explore Oxley Beach Golf Course, it’s right by the water and neighbours the Oxley Estate Winery. The whole area is known for having a tranquil vibe.

Shopping

Although there are no major shopping malls in the town of Harrow, there are MANY opportunities to shop locally by stopping by at a fruit / vegetable stand on the side of the road (or a more established one like The Fruit Wagon), checking out antique shops like (Farm Fresh Antiques), visiting a nursery nearby like (Capogna Flowers, Anna’s Flowers, Cindy’s Home and Garden), and if you’re here during the second Sunday of the month you can explore The Harrow Market. This outdoor market features many handcrafted items made by local artists, produce, flowers and other local businesses.
